Labor Film Festival At Roxy Theater Feb. 26-27

Feb. 08, 2010

MISSOULA –

The Fifth Annual Missoula Labor Film Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27, at the Roxy Theater, located at 718 S. Higgins Ave. in Missoula.

Two films will be shown each day, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The recommended donation is $5 for one night; $9 for both nights.

The film festival is sponsored by the Missoula Area Central Labor Council, The University of Montana Faculty Association and UM’s Women and Gender Studies Program, among others, with support from UM Students for Economic and Social Justice and UM Students for Peace and Justice.

Following is the film festival schedule:

  • Friday, Feb. 26, 6:30 p.m.: “Demand.” The film features investigative footage of the dark and hidden world of sex traffickers, pimps and buyers.
  • Friday, Feb. 26: 7:45 p.m.: “American Casino.” Follow a high school teacher, a therapist and a minister through Wall Street’s collapse, foreclosure, bankruptcy and homelessness.
  • Saturday, Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m.: “The Philosopher Kings.” The film takes viewers on a journey through the halls of the most prestigious colleges and universities in America to learn from the staff members who see it all and have been through it all: the custodians.
  • Saturday, Feb. 27, 8:15 p.m.: “Modern Times.” Inspired by the production line in Detroit that was turning its workers into nervous wrecks, Charlie Chaplin turns against modern society, the machine age and progress in his last silent film.
