UM Hosts Two Guest Lecturers This Week

MISSOULA –

The University of Montana will host two esteemed international experts who will give lectures on Thursday, Nov. 3, and Friday, Nov. 4. All events are free and open to the public.

Emilio Gonzalez Ferrin, professor of Arabic and Islamic thought at the University of Seville in Spain, will present “The Arab Awakening” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Gallagher Business Building Room 123. Earlier in the day he also will present “Al-Andalus: East in the West” from noon to 1 p.m. in Stone Hall Room 303.

Jonathan Spyer is a journalist, author, researcher and lecturer, specializing in the areas of Israeli strategy, Lebanon and Syria. He will present “The Syrian Uprising: Succeeding or Stagnating?” from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in Stone Hall Room 303. Spyer also will present “Israel, Iran and the Arab Upheavals: A Strategic Overview of the Middle East” at 7 p.m. that day in University Center Room 330.

Ferrin’s talks are sponsored by UM International Programs, the Department of Sociology and the Central and Southwest Asian Studies Center.

Spyer’s presentations are sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Montana, UM’s International Programs, Liberal Studies Program and the Central and Southwest Asian Studies Center.
