UM, FVCC Make President's Community Service Honor Roll

Mar. 04, 2013

MISSOULA

The University of Montana and Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell have been named to President Barack Obama’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The designation is the highest national honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service learning and civic engagement.

UM and FVCC were among 690 colleges and universities recognized for their achievements in general community service or civic engagement. FVCC also was among only 113 institutions to earn the “Honor Roll with Distinction” designation.

“We are very proud of our honor roll designees and congratulate FVCC President Jane Karas and UM President Royce Engstrom, as well as the engaged faculty, staff and wonderful community partners at these institutions for their commitment to civic engagement,” said Dean McGovern, executive director of Montana Campus Compact. “FVCC and UM are nationally recognized for their ability to inspire their campuses to work with members of the community to solve problems and improve lives.”

Montana Campus Compact is a consortium of Montana institutions of higher education. MTCC works to improve communities and student engagement through service learning, independent volunteering and AmeriCorps programs.
