MISSOULA – Student members of the Society of American Foresters club at the University of Montana will lead a tour of city land in Marshall Canyon from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21. Students took on management of the 21-acre site as a club project and are implementing management and restoration activities. Participants will meet at the corner of Highway 200 and Marshall Canyon Road at 8:30 a.m. to join the tour.

Students, led by club president George Gaines, are producing a management plan and silvicultural prescriptions, and will work with the city to implement those treatments this fall or next spring.

The tour will introduce attendees to the management objectives and restoration activities at the site, and highlight UM’s collaborative partnership with the city of Missoula. This activity is part of Montana’s Forest Products Week.
