U.S. Senate Debate to be Broadcast Statewide Oct. 20

MISSOULA – Montana Television Network stations and public media outlets MontanaPBS, Yellowstone Public Radio (YPR) and Montana Public Radio (MTPR) will broadcast a U.S. Senate candidate debate between Democrat Amanda Curtis and Republican Steve Daines at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20. (MTPR will air the debate at 7:30 p.m.) The Billings debate is sponsored by MTN, YPR, MSU-Billings and the Billings Gazette. MTN anchor Jay Kohn will moderate.

Following the debate, MontanaPBS and MTPR will provide analysis and fact-checking on issues and claims by the candidates. The analysis will be anchored by John Twiggs of MontanaPBS. He will be joined by former Montana Secretary of State Bob Brown, former Montana legislative candidate Gary Stein and Montana State University political science Professor David Parker. UM School of Journalism students, working under the guidance of Professors Lee Banville and Dennis Swibold, will perform the fact-checking. YPR and MTN will not carry the analysis.
