MISSOULA – The University of Montana is seeking public comment on a draft management plan for the land UM owns on Mount Sentinel and at Fort Missoula.
It is the first management plan for UM’s natural areas, which total more than 650 acres between the two locations. It covers grassland and forest stewardship, invasive plant management, trail maintenance and social/safety issues. UM natural areas specialist Marilyn Marler says the plan addresses important issues at both sites while supporting the goals of managing the lands for education, research, conservation and recreation.
The plan is available online at http://cas.umt.edu/umnaturalareas/documents/um-natural-areas-management-plan-feb2015.pdf. Public comment will be accepted through April 1.
