MISSOULA – Curry Health Center’s International Travel Clinic at the University of Montana will host two informational roundtables from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, and Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Copper Commons on the second floor of the University Center.
Curry Health Center’s International Travel Clinic offers one-on-one appointments for UM students, faculty and staff to prepare them for travel outside the United States. The roundtable panel will include International Travel Clinic nurses as well as students and faculty members who have used the clinic before heading abroad.
“The roundtables are open to everyone who is interested in international travel,” said Curry Health Center travel nurse Dionne Peterson.
From student groups traveling for class to individuals heading abroad on personal trips, the International Travel Clinic provides important information to help keep travelers healthy while they explore. Travelers receive recommendations, tips on health and safety and other medical advice based on their specific itinerary.
“The International Travel Clinic is unique because all the services related to travel are right here,” said Mary Kleschen, medical director at Curry Health Center. “Education, information about health and safety, all immunizations, medications for malaria, mosquito bed nets, insect repellant, water purification tablets, nurses and physicians and health care providers who specialize in travel are all here working together to provide excellent, comprehensive care for travelers.
“Travel provides an outstanding educational opportunity,” Kleschen said. “Taking steps to assure health and safety and to reduce the risk of illness or injury when traveling allow for the travelers to fully immerse themselves.”
