UM LECTURE EXAMINES NECESSITY OF WAR IN AFGHANISTAN
MISSOULA –
Peter Galbraith, a former ambassador and senior administrator with the U.S. government and the United Nations, will present a lecture titled “Afghanistan: A War of Necessity or Quagmire?” on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at The University of Montana.
Galbraith will speak at 7 p.m. in the University Center Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
Galbraith most recently was deputy special representative of the secretary-general of the U.N. to Afghanistan and an assistant secretary-general of the U.N. He was recalled Oct. 1 after he urged the U.N. to take more forceful action to deal with fraud in Afghanistan’s presidential elections.
The lecture is sponsored by UM’s International Programs, Central and Southwest Asia Program, Continuing Education, Department of History, UM Legal Counsel office, Persian Students Association and Montana World Affairs Council.
