May 01, 2017

MISSOULA – University of Montana students are invited to participate in an extreme sports team challenge from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, on the UM Oval.

IM’s Top Griz competition, hosted by Campus Recreation Intramural Sports and the Montana National Guard, includes a rock wall climb, an obstacle course, jousting, big gloves boxing, tug-of-war and king of the hill.

“It’s a great way to wrap up the semester and do something that you’ll be talking about all summer,” said Steve Thompson, director of UM’s Campus Recreation.

Participants are encouraged to form teams of four and can register online at through Wednesday, May 3. Teams will compete in a men’s division or a co-ed division.

The jousting, big gloves boxing, king of the hill and the rock wall climb events each involve a single member from each team. The same member of a team cannot compete in more than one single-member event. The tug-of-war and obstacle course events are full-team events, with all members participating. Points earned in the competition  will be tallied to determine the IM Top Griz 2017.
