MISSOULA – University of Montana Dining recently was recognized with five Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards from the National Association of College and University Food Services competition.
The awards celebrate exemplary menus, presentations, special-event planning and new dining concepts in collegiate dining.
“The Loyal E. Horton Awards are the top awards for facility, concept and menu design in our industry,” said Camp Howard, director of UM Dining. “The awards showcase the best of collegiate dining concepts across North America.”
UM Dining earned a silver award for a residential dining special event in the large-size university category. The award honored the May 5, 2016, “Game of Thrones” dinner, which featured a “Game of Thrones” inspired menu, elaborate settings, staff members dressed as characters from the series, a jousting competition and games.
UM Dining also took home a bronze award in the same category for a Harry Potter-themed event, as well as a banquet event held in the Food Zoo.
The Iron Griz, which is located on UM’s Golf Course, earned a bronze award in the single-concept retail location category. Last year the American bistro earned gold and a grand prize in the category.
In addition, UM Catering won a silver award for its online menu, which can be accessed at https://www.umontanacatering.com/ and a bronze award for catering service at the UM Rodeo Club’s Cowboy Dinner.
The annual awards are named in honor of a past association president and renowned innovator in college and university culinary arts. For more information about the awards or to see a complete list of winners, visit http://www.nacufs.org/recognition-dining-awards.
